The V.I.P. Program
(Volunteers In Progress)
A weekend work program
Adults from ages 17-23 needing
to complete community service due to a non-violent offense.
Hours
of Operation:
This program is a currently
operating weekend work program that began in May 2001. The hours of operation
are
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturday and
Sunday.
Purpose:
The program was designed to be
an immediate cause and effect provision of a negative consequence as well as a
deterrent for future negative behavior. The court system will impose an
immediate order of 16 hours of community service work for the upcoming weekend
to be completed consecutively with the exception of those who are unable to
attend for religious reasons. This order can continue for as many weekends
deemed necessary by the court.
Location:
The program is currently held at
a non-profit organization providing a no-kill shelter for rescued animals, that
have been abused, abandoned or neglected.
Conducted By:
The Director of Crossroads
Foundation, Inc., Rebecca Carey, as well as additional volunteer supervisors,
conducts the program. A background check from the county is mandatory for any
volunteer.
Program Cost:
The cost of the weekend program
is $75.00 per weekend or $40.00 per day, payable upon arrival by cash or money
order. No checks please.
Additional
Information:
·
This program is a pass/fail program. The offender is given a list of
rules and regulations along with an example of a report card. If the attendee
fails the day, they will need to repeat it and additional fees will be imposed.
Report cards will be e-mailed to the courts by Wednesdays, along with the names
of the attendees for that weekend.
·
Although
this program was created to provide a consequence to delinquent behavior, it
adds a therapeutic aspect by using rescued animals in outdoor farm atmosphere.
