Jan Doetsch

Born and raised in Kenosha , Wisconsin, I finished my degree in Johnson City, Tennessee.  My interests varied so greatly that I decided to focus on several areas including Health, PE, Special Education, Psychology, Public Relations and Elementary Education.  I then decided to take what I had learned and apply it to my graduate studies and earned a Masters in Guidance/Counseling at West Georgia College.

Career Information

In my over twenty years of teaching experience I have had the pleasure of teaching a variety of subjects and in a variety of settings.  Since 1996, I have settled into a rewarding career as a middle school guidance counselor.  Previous to that, I spent 4 years creating a school based program for students "at risk" using Adventure Based Counseling.  Additionally, I have one year of experience in Physical Education/Health and 8 years of experience teaching Special Education.

Interests

As far as outside interests go, I truly enjoy the outdoors.  Hiking, playing with my wonderful dogs Zoe and Autumn, yoga, and tennis are among my favorites joys.  Horseback riding has been a long time "love" and challenge.  While that level of activity is still appealing, I also enjoy sitting comfortably with friends in the backyard or on a mountain top.

Background

My background relates well to the focus of Crossroads and the Winds of Change program.  I have been trained  in counseling and my experience with Adventure Based  Counseling allows me to work with youth and adults in programming that is geared towards problem solving.  The physical initiatives are set up so that those participants learn about their learning style in a way that can be applied to daily life -if they choose to apply what they have learned about "self".
